Chemetall will present innovative technologies for surface pretreatment at PaintExpo 2022

The Surface Treatment business unit of BASF's Coatings division, operating under the Chemetall brand, will present various innovations for surface treatment at PaintExpo 2022: A new process that combines conversion coating and primer paint in just one coating layer, a technology for the pretreatment of automotive wheels, and a process monitoring system for pretreatment lines. The Oxsilan® technology will also be shown. PaintExpo 2022 will take place from 26 to 29 April 2022 in Karlsruhe, Germany.

Chemetall's presence focuses on innovative technologies for the pretreatment of surfaces. One highlight is a new coating technology for cold- and hot-rolled steel substrates that combines conversion coating and primer paint in just one layer. The process works without current in the immersion bath and achieves excellent edge covers and inner coatings compared to conventional coatings for general industry. The easy-to-apply technology can be integrated into existing coating lines and does not require any special equipment or a constant coating temperature. This allows shorter process chain, resource savings and decreased running costs.

Another highlight will be Oxsilan, the chromium-free thin-film technology for multi-metal substrates for galvanized and hot-dip galvanized applications. The environmentally friendly and silane-based conversion coating is used for the pretreatment of cars as well as for household appliances, from automotive suppliers or for the construction industry.

Chemetall will also present a new technology for the pretreatment of automotive wheels, which can save up to 15 percent energy compared to the current Chemetall process for the pretreatment of aluminum wheels. In addition, water consumption can be reduced by up to 20 percent. The liquid technology is free of titanium and chrome and compatible with all painting systems. "The process is shorter and easier to handle," says Hendrik Becker, Sales Director DACH at Chemetall. "It uses fewer chemicals and reduces the manual handling, which improves the overall safety."

With GardoControl, the modern and modular pretreatment process monitoring system, Chemetall supports customers in precisely controlling their processes in plants. The solution measures bath and equipment parameters and automatically controls the dosing process. The system increases the process safety due to less manual handling and reduction of water and chemical consumption. Gardo® Control was engineered specifically for the surface treatment industry. "We are pleased to present these new and proven technologies at PaintExpo 2022 and look forward to our conversations at our booth," says Henrik Fliedner, Head of Sales Group General Industry Germany, Austria, Switzerland. Chemetall can be found in Hall 2, booth 2542.
