For valuable support in the pandemic: Chemetall invited to Bastille Day Ceremony on Champs Elysée in Paris

The corona pandemic continues to have global impact on communities, economies and societies around the globe. During the first weeks of the crisis in the area of Sens, France, the Surface Treatment global business unit of BASF’s Coatings division, operating under the Chemetall brand, showed extraordinary dedication to support the fight against COVID-19. In recognition of Chemetall’s contributions, Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, invited Chemetall to the Bastille Day Ceremony.

President Macron selected representatives from companies within the region that helped during the crisis. This selective group was invited to the Bastille Day Ceremony on July 14, the National Day of France. “It was a very special honor for us to be invited to this event and experience the value of our effort in the Sens region,” says Bruno Rouvier, Managing Director Chemetall France. Chemetall was nominated by the Prefect of the Sens area to represent the region.

Together with his team, Bruno Rouvier decided for the Chemetall team to be represented by Emilie Parodat. Emilie Parodat works as a chemist in the lab in Sens and contributed a lot with all her colleagues during the crisis. During the first weeks of the corona pandemic in the Sens area, she helped to finetune a recipe of hydroalcoholic gel and manage its production at the Chemetall site.

During the initial phase of the crisis and beyond, the situation was critical for important institutions such as hospitals, fire brigade, police or nursing homes. There was a lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) and sanitizers (hydroalcoholic gel). Driven by Patrick Grubert, Site Manager in Sens, Chemetall produced several batches of hydroalcoholic gel and supplied it – for free of course – to all these local organizations, in a very short period. “We also supported by donating Tyvek suits, safety glasses and some other PPE to the hospital in Sens,” says Patrick Grubert.

Being invited to this ceremony on Champs Elysée was a very special experience for Emilie Parodat: "Faced with the crisis, we were proud to be able to participate, at our level, in supporting the medical teams." She was one of the State guests and among 1,400 people representing the contribution of the civil world. They were all acknowledged and thanked for their commitment during the health crisis. "It was an honor to represent BASF | Chemetall and to have the chance to participate in this ceremony," shares Emilie Parodat.

The feedback Chemetall received while providing support to the institutions was very positive, the engagement was highly appreciated. Through Twitter, many “Thank you” messages were posted on the Prefect of the region.
