Passivation
Passivation
Final seals enhance the corrosion resistance and adhesion of conversion-coated metal surfaces, ensuring optimal performance for subsequent coatings, including conventional, electrocoat, and powder coatings.
After zinc phosphating, an additional passivation process can further protect metal parts. Our Gardolene® D passivating agent significantly boosts corrosion resistance while providing an excellent adhesive base for downstream processes such as painting. We also offer chrome-free technologies based on zirconium or titanium and alternative corrosion protection mechanisms for environmentally friendly solutions.
For coil-applied passivation technologies, it is essential that the metal surface is protected from corrosion during transport and storage. The passivation technologies from Chemetall make an important contribution to effective corrosion protection between the manufacturing of the coils and their further processing. Our processes demonstrate very good resistance regarding salt spray, humidity and stack tests and allow good formability and post-painting. The corrosion protection performance of the treated galvanized material depends on the passivation film thickness, the reactivity of the galvanized alloy and the application conditions in the galvanizing line. We have introduced excellent hexavalent chrome-free and non-chrome formulations to the market. For special requirements such as high alkaline resistance (alkaline forming emulsions) combined with forming processes, adhesive bonding or post-painting, we can offer a tailored product portfolio.
With deep industry expertise, hands-on insights, and close collaboration, Chemetall delivers tailored solutions that meet each customer’s specific needs.
