Surventis, formerly BASF Coatings, today launched as an independent company, completing its carve-out from BASF. With around €3.9 billion in annual sales and around 10,700 employees, Surventis is one of the world’s leading suppliers of automotive coatings and surface treatment solutions. The business is majority-owned by funds managed by global investment firm Carlyle (NASDAQ: CG) in partnership with Qatar Investment Authority. BASF holds a 40% stake in Surventis. 

BASF Coatings today named the leadership team that will run the business as an independent company from July 1, 2026, after the closing of the transaction. The new structure brings together leaders who have built the coatings business over many years and senior executives with proven records in finance, digital and transformation. The Executive Committee will be led by incoming Chief Executive Officer Jens Luehring.  

The Surface Treatment global business unit of BASF Coatings, operating under the Chemetall brand, has once again received the highest recognition in Airbus’ Supply Chain & Quality Improvement Program (SQIP) and was awarded “Accredited Supplier” status for its performance

Chemetall, the surface treatment global business unit of BASF Coatings, has opened its first application laboratory in the southern province of Tây Ninh (formerly Long An), near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The facility provides product testing and technical support to surface treatment customers across diverse market segments such as automotive OEM and components, general industry, and plastics recycling.
