OXSILAN


OXSILAN® - The eco-friendly solution for metal pretreatment

There is a new alternative for metal pretreatment which offers many advantages compared to the conventional conversion coatings:

The Oxsilan process is environmentally-friendly and does not contain any phosphates or hazardous heavy metals. Oxsilan is suitable for a wide range of metals as well as multi-metal substrates.

The OXSILAN®- Chemistry

The products are based on functionalized organo-silane polymers that are selected to deliver the required performance characteristics with respect to anti-corrosion and paint adhesion properties.

OXSILAN® organo-silane polymers react at room temperature with hydroxides present in the metal oxide layer of cleaned metal substrates to form strong covalent bonds with the metal substrate.

As the OXSILAN® film dries neighbouring hydroxyl groups react with each other to form a dense, interpenetrating, crosslinked network that is chemically bound to the metal surface.

The OXSILAN® - Process Characteristics

– Application: Spray, Dip, Roll, etc.
– Bath temperature: low to ambient
– Contact time: 1 second – 2 min.
– pH range 4 – 6.
– Drying, if required: 60 - 120°C
– No activating step is required
– No further passivating step is required.


OXSILAN® processes are suitable for both wet-on-wet applications as well as drying prior to paint.


The OXSILAN®- Safety

OXSILAN® products are characterized by their ease-of-use and have an excellent environmental and low toxicological profile. They are essentially free of hazardous ingredients and therefore ‘safe-to-use’.

Consequently, further efficiencies are gained due to the minimization of wastewater and the ease of wastewater treatment.

The OXSILAN®- Cost Savings

OXSILAN® allows processing at ambient temperature and thus heating of the bath is not needed. Additional cost savings are realized since
activation and passivation are not required. Fewer process steps and shorter treatment times increase plant productivity.
The bath concentration is controlled via the pH, by titration and spectrophotometric measurements.
Practically no sludge is formed during the process since the metal surfaces are not etched to any great extent.
